It was finally time for me, after the latest terms of service update, to take advantage of my Dreamwidth lifeboat to bail the hell out of LJ. I haven't been using the service very much, as most everyone I know has drifted away in favor of Facebook or Twitter or Instagram.

I don't know what I want to do with it all. My LJ represents the entirety of my married life, from the day I packed up and started the drive to Chicago to move in with Daniel through our return to sunny South Florida ten years later. It holds the memories of many of the strongest friendships of my 20s and 30s. It's a place where my children have been witnessed, by a lot of people, growing up. It's a timeline of spiritual discovery and growth, too. It's a priceless record for me--so I've archived the lot of it here. It's also deeply personal and I'm feeling vulnerable, soft-shelled, uncertain of myself and my welcome so I've chosen, for now at least, to make those years of my life and my thoughts private. (Well, as private as anything that's on the Internet can be. I'm sure it can be found in Russian databases and long-memoried caches.)

It feels, undeniably and sadly, like the end of an era.

I guess it is.
